What is Psychological Science?

Science is a systematic way of asking and answering questions about the world. It is a method of learning that involves asking testable questions, collecting evidence, and revising ideas as new information becomes available.

Psychological science uses these same principles to understand how people think, feel, and behave. By studying mental health through a scientific lens, psychologists find practical ways to help people of every age live better.

What makes someone an expert?

Being an expert means more than having opinions or personal experience. Expertise comes from education and clinical practice. Psychologists who study mental health spend years learning how to separate facts from assumptions by designing strong tests (experiments) and systematically evaluating the data they collect.

How do I weed through all the mental health information out there?

The internet is full of mental health advice — some of it helpful, much of it misleading. On platforms like TikTok and Instagram, anyone can share personal experiences or opinions that sound scientific but haven’t been tested. What works for one person might not work for others, and some popular “tips” can even be harmful when taken out of context.

Will the people behind the science really get me?

We get it. Sometimes “science” can feel cold and disconnected from the problems you’re facing in your life. But scientists are just everyday people working to solve problems they care about. For us, it’s helping people improve their mental health.
